miss it by a minute
miss it by a mile
miss it by a morning
it was someone else’s show
at the other end of town
I like the sideburns
how long will you keep them?
did you really just find them there one morning?
everybody’s got a Garaplan
everybody’s got a sleepyhead lying there
he found a day job
he’s been lifting drywall
how can he say it feels like a vacation?
everybody’s got a Garaplan
everybody’s got a sleepyhead lying there
on the couch for only a few more days
kick him out in subtle ways
was that the new song?
did he give you a preview?
did he take your smokes and
walk you to your front door?
did he kiss you and hold you tight till morming?
I like the landlord
how long will you keep him?
did you really just find him there one morning?

I bought a stamp today
things have been better
tomorrow’s errand is to go out and mail a letter
there have been many times
when I jumped out of bed
it seems like a different century a different country
I can’t do this alone
I can’t do this one without you
I can’t go it alone
I’d like you to be here
the one and only time I ever saw it
a decade and a half ago through a window
they say I should forget it
stop searching the earth
the newer orange box will do an even better job
but I can’t let this go
I trust I’ll find it someday
just around the corner
but where to find that corner
the little orange box just won’t go away
the house of energy is now the house of gloom
it was never part of the plan
to spend all of August in my room
if I am told it might be twenty blocks away
I’ll crawl through a room of nuts and bolts
and won’t care if a bucket of grease falls on me
I can’t do this alone
I don’t want to do this one alone
I trust I’ll find it someday
but when to find that someday
they speak of it with praise
I’ll defend it’s every

Moody No More

we can sample an “ooh”
it might just do if we sample an “ooh”
we can take one there and put it here
this is something that we can do
we can sample an “ooh”
who ever knew we’d make it through?
it’s 9 for Buffalo and 2 for you
I look beside me and I see you
I never knew what happened to you
it must have been around ’92
was anyone there to hold you?
I would like to hold you
if you’re there I’ll sing to you
and if you’re here I’ll sing to you
I’ll change the “me”s to “you” and sing
a little lower than you
Moody Taylor Klein showed up
a little too late a little too quick
never to be seen again
giddy got him nowhere
Moody no more no giddy tonight
Moody Taylor the third never showed his true
what the hell does that mean?
you make me smile when I’m with you
it’s 9 for Buffalo and 2 for you
I’m at my best when I’m with you
it’s 9 for Buffalo and 2 for you
I feel like me when I’m with you
it’s 9 for Buffalo and 2 for you
it’s 8 for Piglet 4 for Poo
9 for Buffalo and 2 for you

The Tench Girl
04:31
|
|||
they were but twelve years old
but that’s what it was all about
their thing was true nothing else meant as much
and really nothing else meant as much
Mr Tench he would not let his daughter see
see the boy it goes way back
a kind of feud Mr Tench has always blamed
the boy’s father for how they lived
in a gumbo hut made of shit
but they lived fine in their hut
he held her hand
she kissed his lips
she was twelve as was he
but their thing was stronger than
anything most of us will ever know
he screamed her name
Mr Tench he screamed her name
they say she fell between the rocks
the wind was rough the water cold
they say she fell between the rocks
where they played the other day
but we all knew she knew those rocks she knew them well
and we all knew she knew those rocks
and no one ever no one ever heard a cry for help
we could could not speak we could not play
for days and days ‘cause we all knew
she knew those rocks she knew them well
they say she fell but we all knew
she knew those rocks she knew them well
they say she fell but we all know
she knew those rocks she knew them well

walk around walk around
trying to put on weight
I'm looking for a flash
I could use at a later date
I'm waiting for the leaves
to do something to the slate
I could buy a book
I could relocate
I guess it's just as well
something broke the phone
tonight there's very little
I'd want to carve in stone
again I will avoid becoming skin and bone
again I will be shown
what to do when I'm alone
something's going well
we let our lunch run late
but something isn't right
I don't know what is on my plate
I don't know what's outside
for beautiful is she
in my sight
now I learn that my eyeball
my eyeball is slightly football-shaped
the guy who's on the air
he's saying love but he's talking hate
he wouldn't let us sing
he made all of us wait
and when it comes my turn
I'll sing like Bonnie Raitt
everyone is here
there's Petrucchio and there's Kate
two new smiles arrive
Chippy brought a date
we can't help but smile
for beautiful are they
in our sight
back to back
hand in hand
eyes open wide

Bucky Dent
02:11
|
|||
there has never been a need to
but I’m going to walk right
up to you and talk about Bucky Dent
it’s fine if a book from 1953
tells you how to cut pictures
because Bucky threw to first
just like they threw to first in 1908
now the engineer won’t let you
put the drums all on one side
and everything else on the other
tell him they’re doing it in Halifax
how can you not where a tuque
on a day like this?

I want to be your personal clown

Roof of Wilson
04:16
|
|||
will you laugh at me
if you see me hanging of the roof?
were you in my high school class?
and do you own this house I’m painting?
getting up to here by the ladder
was a true ordeal I’d wish on no one
when it’s time for lunch I’ll stay atop this house
I’m painting green
most of my heart is for you
do with it as ever you please
I might as well give it to you
here’s somebody new he’s the client
Mister W he seems cool but does he really
have to watch me with binoculars?
half the day is gone sandwich melted
and fell to the lawn there’s something peaceful
the garden can I have the Pepsi in your fridge?
about 135 little green spots on my jeans
I should have put them further away
a new pair will cost more than what I’ll make today
maybe it’s the sun it’s been beating on my head all day
I miss you big time
I came up with some words
a nifty line to tell you something true

The Dirtmovers
05:38
|
|||
the cameras went into town
the cameras pushed them around
now Joe DiMaggio and Ernie Banks come straight into our living rooms
big game the big city with the big names but something has gone
we used to pack our own stands
the Dirtmover players were family to us
when the Denora Zincs or Aberdeen Pheasants would come
just about the whole town big family
we see Snider we see Mays
without even our having to leave the house
big game from the big city with the big names
but since then our team can’t play anymore
Frying Pan Phillips got his job back at the Jenkin’s store
Mr and Mrs Jenkins were only too pleased
I want to tell him he gave us so many exciting plays
but maybe it’s best not mentioned
big game from the big city with the big names but we’ve lost something
the uniforms must be folded away somewhere
there’s talk the town is planning a dance next month
to applaud the guys remember the times
laugh at the stories show some slides drink some punch flirt
we see Berra we see Ted we see Campy closer than if we were there
every pitch and every swing and every slide of every Series game
big game the big names big big
only if I close my eyes and drift can I see the Dirtmovers play
only if I close my eyes and drift can I see another Dirtmovers game

When Flea is 65
04:35
|
|||
When Flea is 65 he’ll still be beautiful in his underwear
When Flea is 65 I’ll get you tickets to the Fugazi reunion tour
When Flea is 65 who knows what we’ll all be listening to?
When Flea is 65 just think about it just imagine
I don’t know if Lars and Kirk
will still bop around when they’re Keith and Mick’s age
but I’ll still be gazing in your eyes
When Flea is 65 I’ll be as sweet on you as I am today
When Flea is 65 I’ll still send postcards from two blocks away
When Flea is 65 I’ll be 63 and my Telecaster will be 49
When Flea is 65 Jon Bon Jovi will be running for president
I don’t know if they’ll make
a ten hour documentary on Toad the Wet Sproket
but I’ll still smile when I see your face arrive
When Flea is 65 I’ll be as sweet on you as I am today
When Flea is 65 I’ll still leave goofy messages on your machine
When Flea is 65 he’ll still be beautiful in his underwear
When Flea is 65 they’ll just be bigger underwear
